Hello all! It’s time to post what I’ve been up to the past while.

For quite a long time I’ve been thinking about designing a “welcome package”for my wedding clients! I loved the idea of giving them a little gift from me and also providing some helpful information & tools regarding their wedding photography. So, a few months ago I went to work and started brainstorming what I wanted to include and how I wanted it to look so it was ready when my new 2013 wedding clients came knockin! Bit by bit I designed each piece including a welcome card, a list our preferred vendors, wedding day FAQ’s, a fun writeup about us the photographers, what to expect and last but not least, a few extra goodies for the bride and groom to-be. I had a lot of fun shopping & designing inserts for this package and just recently have begun handing them out to my new clients! Here’s a little peek!

Saskatoon Surprise Wedding | Jodi + Matt

Yes, you read right! Jodi and Matt planned a SURPRISE wedding this past February! Jodi contacted me back before Christmas to discuss photography for their wedding. Once she filled me in on their plans I was so excited and knew that this would be such an awesome time. It was nothing like I’ve ever done or seen before so I was anxious to see how it was all going to go down and the reactions on people’s faces when they found out. The plan was, they were inviting their friends and family out for supper at Weczeria on Broadway, and little did everyone know, they were going to get married right then and there. Jerrod and I knew one of the couples that was going to be guests at the wedding (D & D, thankfully Jodi noticed our mutual friends on Facebook!), so I had to make sure not to spill the beans when I saw them in the grocery store the week before the wedding, and then again that night when they walked into the restaurant and saw us awkwardly pretending to take stock photos for the restaurant, haha! Nice cover hey?? But we thought, since no one could know why we were there with all our gear, we had to come up with some kind of story. Let’s just say I’m not a very good liar, and my face turned bright red as I was telling my little fib to keep the cover until the bride and groom arrived! Once they arrived they quickly told everyone about their plan…they were GETTING MARRIED! Right here, right now. It was awesome! You could feel the excitement in the room, people whispering, laughing and hugging! About 15 minutes later the ceremony took place in the back of the restaurant, and as simple as it was, their heartfelt vows left very few dry eyes in the house, including me! It was lovely, a real wedding without all the extra glitz, glam and stress…it was absolutely amazing! We felt so privileged to be part of their secret plan from the beginning and to photograph all of these special moments for them.

Luckily we were able to get some formal shots while it was still light out before the events began, we even snuck into the restaurant to shoot a few before anyone got there! Check out these photos from Jodi & Matt’s wedding…

Dana + James | Mexico Destination Wedding

In January, Jerrod and I travelled to the Mayan Riviera, Mexico to photograph Dana & James’ destination wedding on the beach. Luckily we missed the coldest week of winter (couldn’t have planned it better!), while we spent most of our week in the sun relaxing on the beach and by the pool in the days before the wedding. The day of the wedding was gorgeous with the sun shining and not a cloud in the sky. That morning, Jerrod spent some time with the guys taking photos while I shot candids of the girls getting ready. With the tropical humidity making hairstyling challenging for the girls, I decided put down the camera for awhile and help out with that instead! Once everyone was ready, we all headed down to the beach where the couple exchanged vows with the ocean breeze and the waves crashing behind them. After shooting photos on the beach and around the resort, we all enjoyed a delicious dinner at the beachside a la carte restaurant and everyone partied it up that evening at the outdoor poolside reception. Lots of laughs were had!

Thanks Dana & James (and Ellee!) for inviting us to capture these special (and funny!) moments. It was such a fun and relaxing week! I just love how the photos tell a story of the wedding day….

Atlee Rhys | Newborn

Meet my new little niece Atlee! Most of you probably saw the first blog post I did of this little one with pictures of her in the hospital only 2 days old. If you missed that one, you can see it HERE. About a week after she was born Jerrod and I drove south to Coronach to visit this new little babe, my brother and Amber. Of course Auntie had to plan a photo shoot, so we spent the majority of Sunday morning taking photos all around the house. While Landon and Amber were downstairs tidying up I took Atlee upstairs to their room and set up shop on their antique dresser for the first spot. Dad helped out and held the heater off to the side so she’d be cozy, and little Atlee didn’t make a peep all warm and swaddled. About 3.5 hours and 850 photos later (I’m not even joking!) we wrapped up our photo session and had some time to cuddle before we had to hit the road back to Saskatoon. Check out this baby cuteness!

Desiree | Stylized Maternity

I LOVE this shoot that I did for my good friend Desiree during her last trimester of pregnancy with little Miss Elliott (photos of her to come too!!) in early January.

That morning we got up early and our good friend Lacy Watson did Desi’s makeup while I did her hair and together we styled Desi for this session. We had a great time picking out jewelry and accessories, and we even went shopping for a couple new outfits for her a week before the shoot! So fun! Still can’t get over how gorgeous she is! Tadaaaa!

This is us doing hair and makeup, I had to take a little break from the curling iron to get this behind the scenes shot!
